An unexpected climb and flight

There was a test pilot named Don,
Who found his runway near gone.
He hurled an invective,
and pulled his collective,
Then landed with both wings still on.

On Testing the Ballistic Recovery System

In one B-R-S testing bout,
The rocket chose an alternative route.
It just missed Jay's head,
when it whizzed thru his shed,
Where it cooked lunch and then fizzled out.

Poetic Ditty

This tale of glory is true,
Jay Carter who built windmills felt 'blue',
He would much rather fly,
Way up high in the sky,
In his gyro design that was new.

The first day of flying was tough,
The Gyro's controls were quite rough,
To Don Farrington's fright,
It pitched to the right,
And hit with a tail splatting puff.

A new rotor in weeks was then built,
To counter some wobble and tilt,
To all our dismay,
This one shook all the way,
Causing poor Don's demeanor to wilt.

The crew after taking some stabs,
Tried out more rotor tests in the labs,
With plastic and glue,
They could make it spin true,
When they simply stuck-on long trim tabs.

With finally the dream coming true,
Jay no longer was feeling so blue,
The durned thing did fly,
way up there in the sky,
Yee-haw Jay we salute you.

A short Ditty

A dashing young pilot named Jay,
Wanted to fly through the sky his own way.
He invented a plane,
others thought was insane,
Now can fly his own way every day.

Radio traffic from Flight Test Chase Van C-C-Chase

Charlie-Charlie-Base this is Charlie-Charlie-Chase,
Where doing our durndest to lay on some haste.
The CarterCopter is flying, and no we're not lying,
Trying to catch it may prove a big waste.

Charlie-Charlie-Chase this is Charlie-Charlie-Base,
We confirm that your chase is mere play,
It just turned to crosswind, streaked off on to downwind,
Its behind you - get the hell outta the way!.

How Rod Anderson got some of the 'close-ups' at Sheppard Air Force Base

(we caught Rod here thru a 500mm telephoto lens - he says he was just wanting to get concrete proof he was there)

The Gallant CC 'Crew' at Oshkosh '98

(Sorry Stan - if Rod can fly on the wing then I can be at Oshkosh :-)
(PS I was holding the ignition key there wasn't I :-)
